Sunrooms
A sunroom, sun parlour, sun porch or sun lounge is a structure usually constructed onto the side of a house that allows the enjoyment of the surrounding landscape while being sheltered from adverse weather conditions, such as rain and wind. I can be referred to as a patio room, solarium, conservatory or garden room. The credit often goes to England for inventing the concept of conservatories, but a sunroom is not usually considered a conservatory unless it is specifically used as a greenhouse as traditional conservatories were. It is also usually less ornate than a traditional conservatory.
Alfrescos
This word (or words, al fresco) literally means “in the open air” in 18th century Italian. Alfresco is a term usually associated with the dining experience. Restaurants with street or courtyard settings are offering alfresco dining. Alfresco structures, that might otherwise be known as a sunroom or conservatory, are often nearby a kitchen or food preparation area and therefore referred to as alfresco because the space is primarily intended for dining as well as outdoor entertaining. The walls are either open or openable.
